The EOS would like to introduce Professor Greg Whyte OBE, Director of Performance from The Centre for Health & Human Performance and Dr Justin Varney, consultant in public health medicine for Adults and Older People in Public Health England’s Health and Wellbeing team, who will both be speaking on the subject of public health and its relationship to the outdoors industry.

Professor Whyte and Dr Varney will address the huge financial impact of an inactive population on health services and how the outdoors industry is now being seen as one of the major solutions to the problem. With obesity and diabetes a common concern for many in the UK and costing the NHS billions of pounds, they will examine how these diseases are symptoms, not the cause, of the growing burden on public health and how inactivity is the real culprit. Both speakers will discuss the importance of getting people active at an earlier age and how the industry can use this as an opportunity to attract a new and wider customer base.

Physical activity expert, world-renowned sports scientist and former Modern Pentathlete, Professor Greg Whyte competed in two Olympic Games and is a European and World Championship medallist. Prior to specialising in public health medicine, Dr Justin Varney trained in general practice and has a broad range of experience across both primary and secondary care and spent the last few years working across local government and the National Health Service.

The EOS organisers are also pleased to announce an international networking dinner, held on the evening of Tuesday 13th October, which is free to all direct EOG members and members of national association linked to the EOG. Showing unprecedented support for national associations across Europe, the dinner, which will be hosted by the EOG, will give delegates arriving the day before the Summit officially starts, the invaluable opportunity to meet new or catch up with old associates or colleagues in a relaxed and informal setting and will take place in the stunning Winter Gardens adjoining the Mercure Hotel from 6.30pm till late. This year’s Summit will include; AFYDAD (Spain), Avoz, (Czech Republic), Fachgruppe Outdoor (Germany), FHFS (Netherlands), the Italian Outdoor Group, OSV (France), the Polish Outdoor Group, the Russian Outdoor Group and the Scandinavian Outdoor Group, who will be endorsing the Summit within their respective home markets.

Following the selection of Sheffield as host city for the EOS 2015 this year, organisers are pleased to present City Hall Sheffield as the principal venue for the Summit. Located in the heart of the city centre within easy walking distance of public transport and city centre hotels, as well as having easy links to motorways, City Hall Sheffield is a stunning art deco building offering an inspirational setting for EOS 2015.  A spacious and flexible venue, City Hall Sheffield will let delegates benefit from having a much larger venue than previous EOS events.

EOS 2015 speeches and seminars will take place in City Hall’s spectacular Ballroom, which can host conferences for up to 500 people, making it the ideal spot for delegates to congregate comfortably. In addition, the configuration of the adjoining North and South Halls offer the ideal workshop and breakout areas.
